Coils in Metal Detectors

Coils in metal detectors play a crucial role in the functionality of a metal detector, and they are extensively used.

There are two types of coils: Double-D coils and Mono coils.

Double-D Coils:

Double-D coils are used for detecting metals. If you have installed a Double-D coil, you can detect metals with your machine. If your machine has an option for metal detection but you haven’t attached a Double-D coil, the machine won’t be able to detect metals. It’s necessary to use a Double-D coil to detect metals effectively. Double-D coils are highly stable and reliable. When using Double-D coils, your machine won’t provide any false signals or inaccuracies. While the depth of detection may be reduced with Double-D coils, they offer significant benefits. With these coils, you can even detect iron and stabilize your machine.

Mono Coils:

Mono coils allow you to achieve greater depth in detection. While Double-D coils provide more depth than Mono coils, Mono coils cannot cut metals. They lack the discrimination power of Double-D coils. Additionally, Mono coils are less stable and might produce false signals. Many prefer Mono coils because of their increased depth capabilities. They can determine targets at greater depths compared to Double-D coils.

Coil Size:

The depth of detection in a metal detector depends on the size of the coil. Larger coils provide more depth, while smaller coils offer less depth. Coils ranging from 5 inches to 40 inches are commonly used. Some companies even manufacture coils larger than 40 inches. Smaller coils are useful for detecting small items with precision, while larger coils are better suited for detecting larger targets. Coils with smaller sizes can detect items like coins or small trinkets without requiring significant depth.

For searching coins and jewelry, a coil size of around 11 inches is commonly used. These coils won’t detect small particles, but they can detect larger items like coins. If you want to search for larger items like jewelry and coins, you can use coils ranging from 11 inches to 25 inches. Using larger coils increases the chances of detecting bigger objects.

If you have a larger coil, such as 40 inches, it’s ideal for searching for larger treasures rather than small particles like coins or tiny objects. Larger coils offer more depth, but they might not be as effective for detecting small items. If you use coils larger than 40 inches and want to search for small objects, these coils won’t be suitable. Instead, they are designed for finding larger treasures.
